Q: How do I know the shower pan will fit?
A: We will generate drawings based on your specific information. The drain locations are indicated with dimensions, which will make it possible to rough in the plumbing even before your new Grifform® shower pan arrives.
Q: How do I care for a shower pan?
A: The Corian® materials the Grifform® shower pan is constructed of is easy to care for and is described thoroughly in the DuPont™ Corian® care guide. The great feature of your Grifform® shower pan is that it can be cleaned with soapy water or ammonia-based cleaners and sponge or Comet® abrasive cleaner and a Scotch-Brite® pad, without any worry about damaging the surface. Unlike any other shower materials the cleaning renews the surface and will help it look like new. Soap film, dirty grime and body oils are easily cleaned without fear of damage and rinsed away. Because the material is non-porous it does not harbor bacteria that makes it ideal for use in Health Care facilities and in food service areas.
Q: How do I install a shower pan?
A: The Grifform® shower pan is one of the easiest units available to install. The installation guide will take you step by step through the process which can be done in as little as five minutes in some cases. Grifform® has engineered design features to make this unit easy to ship, and simple to install, and have designed to accommodate a wide variety of wall surfacing material if you should choose to mix materials other than Corian®.
Q: Do I need a plumber to install a shower pan?
A: If you are building new, you will most likely have a plumbing contractor that can install your Grifform® unit easily. Grifform® has also made it easy to install in a renovation as well. With no additional buildup needed under your unit for support, you can easily attach the drain, assuring that the unit is level glue in the unit, and start applying the wall materials. If you can do these primary steps you most likely will not require a plumber.
Q: Does it require a special fabricator to install a shower pan?
A: The Grifform® unit has been designed with easy installation in mind. Because the unit is ready to use, a certified installer is not required as long as you follow the installation instructions.
Q: What type of sub floor does it require for installation of a shower pan?
A:The unit is designed for installation on frame or concrete slab construction. The Grifform® shower pan has all the necessary support built into the unit and needs only a level and sound floor.
Q: What is the offset required from the shower wall?
A:This is one of the most commonly asked questions and perhaps the one with the most possible answers. Grifform® has designed the shower pan unit to be the most adaptable unit of its kind for the use of differing adjoining materials. As different materials are applied on the shower walls it changes the location of the pan to the wall when installed. You can follow the rough in guide that will direct you through how to determine the right placement for your choice of wall surfacing material.
Q: Can I use tile or granite/marble for my shower wall surrounds?
A: Grifform® has again designed our units to allow these materials to be used if desired. If you haven’t made a final wall treatment choice by the time the pan has to be installed you can use the Grifform® unit and install many other wall materials with the Grifform® unit.
Q: Can I install a shower pan without removing the existing wall surfaces?
A: The unit can be installed without completely removing the existing walls by undercutting the needed areas to receive the shower pan. After installing the shower pan unit the wall panels can be installed over the existing walls to complete the installation.
Q: Do you have non-obtrusive threshold options?
A: Grifform® shower pans offer four threshold options: Drip Threshold, No Drip Threshold, Low Egress Threshold or No Egress Threshold. We build to meet your individual need in accordance with your requirements, within the ADA guideline requirements.
Q: Isn’t the material too slick to be used as a shower pan?
A: The Grifform® shower pan has been designed with the correct but very gradual slope. The Corian® material the units are constructed of is reportedly not as slick when wet as when dry, making this the best possible combination. Additional non-skid patterns can be added to the unit at additional cost but are seldom used.
Q: Do I have to have an overflow drain?
